I am a helicopter pilot with VXE-6 "Ice Pirates". I am the
Helicopter Operations Officer. I am in charge of all helo operations
including the allotment of hours to all individual science and support
groups.
I graduated from North Carolina State University in December 1988
with a B.S. in Civil Engineering after going through Navy ROTC at NC
State. I received my Navy wings in May 1990.
I decided I wanted to be a pilot in high school and realized the Navy
would be a good way to make that happen. I heard about VXE-6 in flight
training although it is not a well-known Navy squadron. The challenges
of flying in Antarctica really intrigued me, so I tried for it, and
luckily, ended up here.
I will be transferring from this squadron in August of '95, so right now
I'm deciding on my orders for the next couple of years.
I was born in Charlotte, NC and grew up in North and South Carolina.
Hobbies include most all sports (volleyball in Antarctica), camping,
wood-working, and spending time with my new wife, Ann Stevens, formerly
of Colorado.
