>The first people wintered in Antarcitrca in 1899 and first stepped in
Antarctica in 1895. The first United States citizen to see Antarctica was
Nathanial Palmer, a sealer, in 1820.

The United States has been active in research since the early 1920's with
some gaps. We have ahd three round round stations, McMurdo Palmer and South
Pole since 1955.
