QUESTION: What is the least seen animal in Antarctica? From Jennifer M. in Ms. Wingate's Class, TX. ANSWER from Mary Lenox, ASA, Administrative Coordinator Palmer Station, Antarctica Wed, 19 Feb 1997 16:57:08 -0500 Hi, Jennifer! I think of the animals that live in this area, the whales are the ones that are seen the least. Some summers they don't visit this area at all. We have been really lucky this summer and have had humpbacks in the area many days. A couple of the scientists saw two southern right whales this summer and from the R/V Polar Duke, our ship that supports the station, they saw orcas and finn whales. I wish I could have seem them!! Cheers, Mary Lenox
