Dear Elizabeth,

I chose to study penguins because I have been interested in
birds ever since I was a little kid.  I also have had a strong desire
to see birds in other parts of the world, and Antarctica was
definitly another part of the world from Montana, where I grew up.
These birds also live in a very intersting ecosystem and they provide
an excellent subject for the research I am doing.
